Abby Goodrich, LAC, MA

Abby Goodrich is a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC). Originally from upstate New York, Abby earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo, where she honed her passion for mental health advocacy. During her time at Geneseo, she interned with the American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Services and worked as a peer advocate for a peer-help program, laying the foundation for her career in counseling.

Abby went on to pursue her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where she gained valuable experience in an outpatient mental health setting. During her internship, she worked with children, adolescents, and adults, receiving specialized training in various therapeutic techniques, including play therapy and sand tray modalities.

In her practice, Abby integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and person-centered approaches, tailoring her methods to meet the unique needs of each client. Abby believes the counselor takes on many roles in the therapeutic relationship, but can be considered a mentor, a guide, and an advocate. She posits the counselor should help the client feel understood, keeping the main focus on the therapeutic relationship, and allowing therapeutic techniques to come out naturally with an appropriate balance.

A fun fact about Abby: she had the opportunity to study abroad in Madagascar, where she embraced a new cultural perspective. She cares deeply about the environment and sustainability initiatives.
