Wellness Hills provides mental health treatment for Mendham Borough and Mendham Township residents at our Chester facility, about 10 to 15 minutes down Main Street.
Weekly therapy helps many people, but sometimes it’s no longer enough. For adults in Mendham Borough and Mendham Township, the harder question is what comes next when a hospital is neither needed nor wanted.
Wellness Hills provides adult outpatient mental health treatment in Chester, about 10 to 15 minutes from Mendham along the same Main Street corridor. Our programs include intensive outpatient care, partial hospitalization, weekly therapy, and psychiatric medication management.
Mendham has solid options for weekly therapy in town. Structured levels of care above weekly sessions sit in nearby towns, and Chester is the closest point on that ladder for most Mendham residents. This page explains those levels, who they may fit, and how to start.

Our clinicians use CBT and exposure-based approaches as the better-studied first-line options and track progress with measures such as the GAD-7 and PHQ-9. Before any of that, one question decides the plan: how much structure does the situation call for?
An IOP program can be appropriate when weekly sessions are not holding, but work, family, and home life need to continue. It runs in daytime and evening tracks, which matters for Mendham’s commuters.
A PHP program is the most structured level short of a hospital stay. It may fit when someone needs full daytime support, Monday through Saturday, while still sleeping in their own bed.
Our outpatient program provides ongoing individual therapy. When prescribing is part of the plan, medication management with Paula Weisman, PMHNP-BC, can run alongside it.
From the center of Mendham Borough at Main Street and Hilltop Road, follow West Main Street west. The road is County Route 510, the historic Route 24 corridor, and it runs directly into Chester, where it becomes Main Street. The office is at 425 Main St, Floor 1, with free on-site parking.
The drive takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Township sections like Brookside and Ralston run a few minutes longer. This is a corridor the two towns already share daily, including families heading to West Morris Mendham High School.
Mendham has no train or bus service of its own, and commuters drive to Morristown station. Telehealth across New Jersey and an evening IOP track, Monday through Wednesday from 5:45 to 8:45 pm, fit days built around that car commute.
Care at every level starts with an assessment of what someone is dealing with, how much it is disrupting daily life, and how much structure the week calls for. A diagnosis alone does not set the level of care; the assessment does.
That range includes anxiety treatment, depression treatment, and trauma treatment, each matched to the level of structure someone needs at the time. We also work with bipolar disorder, where medication management typically runs alongside therapy, and grief and loss when mourning becomes something heavier. A full list of conditions is on our conditions page.
For a Mendham resident stepping up from weekly therapy, one question sits underneath the logistics: who is actually running the care. The answer does not change with the level. The same clinical team oversees treatment whether someone starts in outpatient therapy or moves into the IOP or PHP schedule, so stepping up a level does not mean starting over with new people.
Leigh Rasmussen, LPC, LCADC, Program Director, oversees clinical programming across all levels of care.
Paula Weisman, PMHNP-BC, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management when prescribing is part of the plan.
Abby Goodrich, LAC, Primary Therapist, provides individual and group therapy.

Our programs have limits, and naming them matters. IOP and PHP are not built for an active suicidal crisis, for someone who needs monitoring around the clock, or for medical detox. Wellness Hills does not provide residential, inpatient, or detox care.
If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or 988 now.
For a psychiatric evaluation, Morris County’s designated screening center is located at Saint Clare’s in Denville, 25 Pocono Road, with a 24-hour line at 973-625-6150. Inpatient psychiatric care runs through the same health system at Saint Clare’s Behavioral Health Hospital in Boonton. They are two campuses of one system, and neither is in Mendham.
When a higher level of care is needed, we handle step-up coordination in both directions: up when things escalate, and back down when they stabilize.

"I felt supported, understood, and never judged. The therapists here actually listen, and the groups helped me build confidence and skills I didn’t even know I needed. I’m healthier, calmer, and finally hopeful about my future. I’m so grateful for the care I received.”

Wellness Hills can verify your insurance benefits before admission. Verification may include whether the policy is active, whether Wellness Hills is in-network for your plan, deductible information, copays or coinsurance, and prior-authorization requirements for IOP or PHP.
The admissions team provides an estimate based on information supplied by the insurer; benefit verification is not a guarantee of payment, and the carrier makes the final determination after claims are processed.
Verify your insurance online. It is free, confidential, and carries no obligation.
The organizations below are independent resources, not operated by or affiliated with Wellness Hills. We list them because knowing where to turn matters even when, and especially when, our programs are not the right fit. In an emergency, call 911 or 988 first.

Most people have a few practical questions before they pick up the phone. These are the ones we hear most often from this area.
Often, yes. The evening IOP track exists for schedules built around a commute. From Morristown station, the drive to Chester generally takes about 20 to 25 minutes depending on traffic. Admissions can help map the specific evening schedule against your commute before you enroll.
No. Wellness Hills is located at 425 Main Street, Floor 1, in Chester, about 10 to 15 minutes from both Mendham Borough and Mendham Township along the Main Street corridor. Telehealth is available anywhere in New Jersey when clinically appropriate.
Yes, both. The Borough and the Township are separate municipalities that share a community, and both are within a 10 to 15-minute drive of our Chester office. Telehealth is available anywhere in New Jersey.
Mendham’s in-town options are private practices offering weekly therapy, which serves many people well. Structured IOP and PHP programs for this area are located in nearby towns, including Wellness Hills in Chester.
The first call is simpler than most people expect. You talk with an admissions coordinator about what has been going on, they check your insurance, and together you schedule an assessment. That assessment, not the phone call, determines the level of care.
From Mendham, you can start in person at the Chester office or through telehealth anywhere in New Jersey. Call 973-532-5139 or verify your insurance online to begin.
